PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Time: 1 hour
Format: Workshop
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Define the concept of
infantilization,
Discuss how the
infantilization influences the elderly individual,
Describe behaviors
caregivers exhibit that foster dependence,
Describe behaviors
caregivers can exhibit to foster independence and
promote the maintenance of
the elderly persons cognitive and physical abilities.
FACULTY:
Dr. Geboy is currently Partnership Director of the Southwest Health
Professions Education Center/EES, Prescott Center. Prior to
joining the VA, he was Associate Professor of Behavioral Science at Georgetown
University, School of Dentistry, and also taught in the School of Medicine.
He has had faculty appointments at the University of Maryland, School of
Nursing, Temple University, the University of Texas at Tyler, and has also taught at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
He has published numerous articles, chapters, and a textbook in the area
of communication and health behavior change.
