CLINICIAN DEVELOPMENT:
FINDING YOUR VOICE THROUGH
GUIDED INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCING
(10WH)

February 26, 2010
8:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Hassayampa Inn
122 E. Gurley Street
Prescott, AZ

>>> Educational Prerequisite for Registration: Master’s degree or above in mental health or related field. <<<

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: If you literally have no voice, one visits the otolaryngologist, but if your therapeutic voice feels like it’s lost or in need of a tune up, this workshop may be for you. In this highly interactive and experiential program, we will explore how voice dynamics and indirect hypnotic techniques can bolster clinical efficacy relating to your professional practice. The following topics will be covered: voice and breathing dynamics in relation to personal goals; history and background of hypnotherapy and related modalities; literature review including disorders for which hypnotherapy is recognized as an empirically supported treatment; clinical problems that can be successfully treated with adjunctive hypnotic techniques; and specific ways to bolster CBT and related modalities with indirect techniques, with emphasis on the treatment of chronic PTSD. This program is aimed at the intermediate to advanced skill level.

FACULTY: George Gafner, LCSW, is an invited faculty at the International Erickson Congress on Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. He has been faculty for advanced level training of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and since 1995, has been an honored presenter for Southwest Health Professions Education Center, Inc. Mr. Gafner retired from the Southern Arizona V.A. Health Care System as director of family therapy and hypnosis training, however, he is still working with the Tucson V.A. as a therapist in a hypnosis study in the Gastroenterology department. He works as a PRN mental health clinician at the Pima County Adult Detention Center. Mr. Gafner is author of five books on clinical hypnosis and 35 professional journal articles on hypnosis and other topics.
