PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The morning segment on Bloodborne Pathogens is designed to give participants an understanding of employer’s duties in relation to the BBP Standards and work place exposure control plans. It also covers requirements for staff training, vaccination, and recordkeeping. Participants will gain knowledge of protections offered to them under the scope of this standard. In the afternoon, the topic of Infection Control, imperative in the practice of dentistry, will cover protection of patients and the dental staff. This program is specifically designed to provide current information on the PRACTICAL APPLICATION of CDC’s Guidelines for Infection Control in the Dental Health-Care Setting--2003. An overview of infectious diseases specific to dentistry will be discussed. Interactive participation will be encouraged during the presentation. FACULTY: Cheryl Caballero, a Safety Consultant for the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health, (ADOSH), is devoted to assisting employers in the development of safe and healthful workplaces. With extensive experience as an ADOSH Compliance Officer, private sector responsibilities as a Safety Director, Human Resources, Facilities and Procurement Manager for both large and small entities, and post-graduate studies in business management, she has well-rounded first-hand knowledge of the many challenges faced by employers today. It is her firm belief that it is possible to meet workplace EHS regulatory obligations while staying profitable; and she will present information and guidance on health and safety matters toward this goal. John B. Tullner, DDS, is a graduate of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and served 3 years in the US Army Dental Corps as a general practice resident and staff dentist. Dr. Tullner was the consultant for dental infection control to the VA Headquarters Office of Dentistry prior to his retirement as Chief of the Dental Service at the VA Medical Center, Richmond, VA, with more than 27 years of VA service. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry where he coordinates the Infection Control and OSHA programs. Over the last 25 years, he has lectured on the practical application of dental infection control and the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. Dr. Tullner is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and is a member of the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, and the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures (OSAP). The Department of Veterans Affairs, Employee Education System is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Continuing Education Credit: The Department of Veterans Affairs, Employee Education System designates this activity for 6 continuing education credits. REGISTRATION FEES:
Registration fee is $190.00 for dentists, $125.00 for all other
dental professionals. Fee for full-time VA employees is $15.00
(Phoenix) and $18.00 (Prescott). Includes continental breakfast and
course material.
Credit card
registrations may be faxed to (928) 776-6137. Visa, Discover &
Mastercard accepted. Payments must be received at least 5 days
prior to the program to ensure registration availability. Refunds,
minus a $15 processing fee, will be made until 3 days prior to the
program. No refunds will be made after this date. There will a
