PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program will provide an overview for a holistic model of substance abuse treatment as an alternative to current treatment. It will provide a conceptual framework and rationale for complementary and alternative treatment (i.e., the evolutionary stage of development from an allopathic approach to treatment with a holistic approach). There will be discussion of yoga and meditation and how these "ancient technologies" can be effective in the current treatment of addiction, especially in stress reduction. The program will outline the importance of nutrition and supplements as major components of recovery and healing. There will be explanation of how to utilize the "Wellness Inventory" as a whole-person awareness and assessment tool. There will be discussion of how diagnostic, assessment, and treatment devices based upon quantum physics (MRI and Pet scans devices were developed from an understanding of quantum physics) can be effective in the healing process of the addicted person. This program is aimed at the intermediate skill level. FACULTY: Sadhu Singh Khalsa, MSW, LISW, is founder of the Total Health Recovery Program, founder of Healing the Warrior Program, and is a certified wellness coach. In February 2009, Mr. Khalsa presented at the “Annual NASW Conference”, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, speaking on the topics of, “Healing the Warrior Program-A Holistic Residential Treatment Approach for the Veterans*, and “The Wellness Inventory-A Whole Person Assessment.” Mr. Khalsa graduated from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in 1969. His career path in addiction therapy includes positions as clinician, administrator, grant writer, teacher, yoga instructor, healer, and mentor. Mr. Khalsa was program director of the only accredited holistic residential treatment center in America in 1978.
