PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Wrap up 2008 with training on self-care and yoga. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a yoga fitness program based on a philosophy that encourages both positive health practices and a positive outlook for life. Participant will learn how to assess posture, strength, and flexibility; and also determine how these factors affect the body as a whole.  This program will cover suggested ways to change one’s exercise routine as he or she progresses to continue to gain strength, flexibility, and confidence. This program will teach participants powerful and effective stress management techniques and “anti-burnout”. The goal of yoga is to learn ways to increase flexibility, inner strength, and self-awareness.

FACULTY: Christy Burnette is Director of Yoga Education at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. She is a certified E-RYT 500 Anusara Yoga instructor and owner of Arizona Yoga, in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Ms. Burnette has been a student of yoga for almost two decades, and has trained with John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga, since 1991.  Her long experience gives her an unusually rich detailed palette of teachings.  Among the first to be certified in Anusara, Christy is one of the most beloved teachers from the thriving yoga community in the western U.S.  Ms. Burnette is known for her thorough, compassionate, rigorous mentoring of other yoga teachers. Ms. Burnette’s experience includes individual and group instruction, teacher training, and therapy training. Her background also includes sports rehabilitation and personalized training for people of all levels of mobility. As a Certified Anusara Teacher, Ms. Burnette travels nationwide offering in-depth Yoga Therapy Trainings, workshops, and retreats.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:  At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • recognize a clear vision of where they are beginning on a bio-mechanical level,

  • identify a personalized asana (postures/movement) program designed for where he or she is “now”,

  • utilize “breath awareness and support” to balance the physical aspects of yoga,

  • utilize stress reduction techniques and create a practice of yoga which is aimed at meeting the daily time requirements each person has determined for development and healing.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: The Southwest Health Professions Education Center, Inc. (SEC) certifies this program for 6 contact hours.  A certificate of attendance will be awarded. 

[ASWB] -- VA Employee Education System, Provider Number 1040, is approved as a provider for continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards 400 South Ridge Parkway, Suite B, Culpeper, VA 22701. www.aswb.org. ASWB Approval Period: 4/7/07 - 4/1/10. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 6 continuing education clock hours in participating in this course.

[CNE] -- The Southwest Health Professions Education Center, Inc. (SEC) is a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider # CEP 11270.  This program is approved for 6 contact hours.

REGISTRATION: Registration is $109.00. Fee for VA employees is $8.00. Includes continental breakfast and course material.  Credit card registrations may be faxed to (928) 776-6137.  Registration is not complete until payment received.  Space is limited so please register early.  Refunds, minus a $10 processing fee, will be made until 3 days prior to the program.  No refunds will be made after this date. There will a $15.00 processing fee for any returned checks.
